Djokovic Thrashes Nadal in China Open Final

Djokovic defeats Nadal yet again to secure his sixth China Open Title.

World number one Novak Djokovic beat Rafael Nadal in a ruthlessly with a score of 6-2 6-2 to win his sixth ATP China Open title.

Nadal, 29, in his sixth singles final of 2015, missed a chance to break Djokovic at 3-2 in the opening set to level the match in Beijing.

With a fightback not materialising and the Spaniard requiring treatment on his right foot at 1-1 in the second set, the 28-year-old Serb won comfortably.

Djokovic, who won his eighth title of the year in 90 minutes, said Beijing had “definitely been the most successful tournament so far in my career”.

“The fans give me reason to come back every year.”

Nadal, who saved two championship points, said the top seed was “having one of the most memorable seasons in the history of our sport”.

Of his recent own dip in form, Nadal added: “I have been improving in every single match. All matches are good practice for me. It’s good energy for starting next season stronger.”

Meanwhile, Wimbledon runner-up Garbine Muguruza beat Timea Bacsinszky in the WTA final.

In the women’s singles final in Beijing, 22-year-old Muguruza of Spain won 7-5 6-4 in a hard-fought victory for her second WTA title.

“It’s amazing, and I can’t wait to come back and defend my title next year,” she said at the trophy presentation of her biggest title to date.

The victory will moves Muguruza up to fourth in the world rankings which will be released on Monday.

Djokovic breezes past Zhang Ze and moves forward to the quarter finals in the China Open tournament

Novak Djokovic drew level with Jimmy Connors for the second-longest unbeaten record at an ATP Tour event by beating Chinese wild card Zhang Ze 6-2, 6-1 on Thursday to improve to 26-0 at the China Open.

Now, he only trails behind Nadal’s 31-0 start at the French Open from 2005 to 2009.

The tennis ace had already won five titles at the China Open for the past six years excluding 2011 when he did not play in the tournament.

Djokovic said that the conditions in China suits his game as he advances into the quarter finals.

“I feel very pleasant playing on the center court,” he said. “I guess as I keep coming back each year with that positive record, obviously gives me more confidence knowing that I played so well in the past on this court.”

Meanwhile, third seed Rafael Nadal also gets into the quarter finals by beating Vasek Popisil in round two of the China Open.

The 29-year-old Spaniard gave a much-improved performance and won 7-6 (7-3) 6-4 to set up a quarter-final against American Jack Sock on Friday.

“Obviously I improved from yesterday,” said Nadal, who lost serve four times against China’s Wu Di in round one.

“Every victory gives me opportunities to keep practicing the things that I need to practice.”

“Practicing outside of the competition is very important, but at the end you have to compete well. Every match is an opportunity for me.”
