England to face Australia in Rugby League World Cup opener

Published by:

England is set to play against Australia in the opening match of the 2017 Rugby League World Cup.

Australia is also hosts for the 15th edition of the tournament, alongside New Zealand and Papua New Guinea.

The event begins on 27 October, and England is also set to face Lebanon and France in Pool A.

14 spots remain available through qualifiers.

England prop James Graham relishes the challenge of facing a difficult opponent in the opening game of the tournament.

“Australia first off the bat in Melbourne is going to be a great spectacle,” he said.

“They have set the standard in terms of international rugby league for the majority of the last 30 or 40 years,” he conceded.

“New Zealand have won the odd tournament here and there but the Kangaroos have been the sport’s dominant force, so playing them first up in their own back yard in Melbourne is a great way to kick the tournament off.”

However, the hosts had come under criticism after it was revealed that the rugby league stronghold of Sydney will hold only two matches. Michael Brown, chief executive officer of the event said that the New South Wales government was not insistent on playing more games there.

He also supported the idea to spread fixtures across the continent.

“It is about the involvement of each of the governments willing to host matches and sadly that didn’t happen in NSW,” he said.

“The decision to take matches to places like Darwin, Christchurch and Port Moresby was made with the future of the game in mind. They are matches we believe will give profile to the sport in markets that have already shown an appetite for rugby league.”

England defeats Wales despite misfiring Ford

England defeats Wales despite misfiring Ford

Jack Clifford sprints for England’s fourth try.

Wales: (13) 13

England defeats Wales by scoring five tries to win 27-13 at Twickenham despite fly-half George Ford misfiring.

Wales lead early as Rob Evans tries, before England backs registered two fine tries from Luther Burrell and Anthony Watson, making it 13-10 before the break.

Ben Youngs then brought England ahead with a long try, and Jack Clifford closed the deal by showing good pace to go over from distance and Marland Yarde crossed out wide.

The final difference scores could have been much more even if 10 English players were absent, playing in the Premiership final. George Ford tops it off with a bizzare slump; he missed six of his seven attempted kicks at goal – even though conditions were perfect.

The coach defended Ford, his fly-half, pointing out that Tiger Woods and Michael Jordan also had their occasional off-days, but the contrast with the currently dead-eyed Owen Farrell was inescapable.

Still, the Roses may still be a work in a progress, but they facing defeat were rare since Eddie Jones took over. Even their youngsters who scored well-taken tries are doing their best to complicate Jones’s selection plans.

And now, they could set out on a hopeful note for Australia next month, as they prepare to play in the southern hemisphere tours.

Tom Brady's $200 89-recipe cookbook sold out

It is most remarkable that price tag of $200 is unable to deter Tom Brady fans even the slightest as they all mobbed bookstores to get they hands on the NFL Star’s new cookbook.

The 89-recipe tome, snappily titled the TB12 Nutrition Manual was described on the New England Patriots quarterback’s official website as being printed on 100-pound text paper with covers made from natural wood that include laser etching.

It describes its culinary offering as a “limited-edition ‘living document’ containing information about our core TB12 nutritional philosophies and featuring a library of 89 seasonally-inspired recipes that you can use to support your TB12-aligned nutrition plan.”

Much in the spirit of commercialism too, the description on the site also added, “Please note also that as we periodically update this manual with new or modified recipes, we will send additional pages to all purchasers of the manual.”

Essentially, anyone who buys it will receive additional pages with new or modified recipes until Brady runs out of culinary ideas.

Brady himself also posted a picture from the book on his Facebook page, calling it “another step toward achieving your peak performance.” But all copies are final sale. “Please note that due to its unique content and binding, all sales of the TB12 Nutrition Manual are final sale – the manual cannot be returned or exchanged.”

The book proved to be a big hit as it already ran out of stock, and further copies will only be made available after another month or so. But it wasn’t even the most expensive book written by a member of his family. His wife Gisele Bundchen had written a $700 coffee-table book last November, which sold out too.

Either way, Brady would have plenty of time to perfect his skills and maybe come up with a second cookbook, as he is set to miss the first four games of the next NFL season after his Deflategate ban was upheld last month.
