Qatar World Cup receives support from David Beckham

Beckham believes that it is about bringing football to new countries.

Despite growing uncertainty regarding hosting rights, David Beckham believes the 2022 World Cup should be held in Qatar.

Fifa, the hosting body is under investigations of corruption in recent months.

Beckham said: “Whether it’s corrupt or not, those countries have been chosen. People need to get behind that.”

“It’s about bringing football to new countries. They should stick with it. They’ll make it work.”

In June a leading Fifa official said Russia and Qatar could lose the 2018 and 2022 World Cups if evidence emerges of bribery.

Russia and Qatar have denied wrongdoing in their bidding processes and the official, Domenico Scala, said he had not seen evidence of corruption.

When asked whether football’s governing body will truly reform, the 40-year-old former England captain said: “No – they are just hitting the bend.”

“It’s such a mess that it’s going to take a while to sort out.”

“For me to see the game, the way it’s been treated and looked after, is devastating. It’s disgusting.”

Last week, Fifa plunged further into crisis when US authorities investigating corruption at the sport’s governing body charged 16 officials.

Rooney slaps Barrett at WWE event

The Manchester United captain stood up and gave the WWE star a slap down.

When WWE star Wade Barrett spotted Manchester United strike Wayne Rooney in the front row with his son Kai at WWE Raw, he saw a chance for revenge.

It was around nine months ago that their feud began when the British wrestler Barrett accused Rooney on Twitter of diving to win a penalty in an FA Cup win against Preston North End.

After spotting the record Englishman in the front row, Manchester-wrestler Wade Barrett attempted to humiliate the 30-year-old striker on the microphone.

Behemoth Barrett, 35, goaded the England international, saying: ‘In this ring are two men who can be easily be described as championship material. Which is, of course, more than can be said of Wayne Rooney and Manchester United.’

Barrett then made his insult personal as he made reference to Rooney’s eldest son.

He sneered: ‘I’d hate for your little boy to sit there and watch his own father fail. Because let’s face it, he gets to experience that every single time you step on a football pitch.’

Rooney then began taunting Irish wrestler Sheamus during his fight with Antonio Cesaro, which prompted Barrett to confront his footballing nemesis face-to-face at ringside.

He told Rooney to mind his own business and prodded the England star in the chest.

The England captain responded by slapping Barrett.

The frenzied Manchester crowd chanted Rooney’s name as the striker’s blow left Barrett sprawling on the floor. The incident – true to professional wrestling – was of course scripted and England skipper Rooney ‘revelled‘ his role.

Wayne Rooney has faced some fearsome opponents in his career, but they don’t come much bigger than 6ft 7in, 246lb WWE wrestler Wade Barrett.

This would go down on history as one of the most bizarre crossovers in sport, and a feather to Rooney’s hat.

The Good: Top 5

Manchester United moves to the top spot as they clinched a convincing 3-0 victory over Sunderland on Saturday. This would not have happened if it were not for City’s two successive defeats where they could have go further up front. It was only two games before that City was ahead of United with 5 points, and the first time United was at the top of the table since Louis Van Gaal took charge.

Meanwhile, West Ham United fails to take advantage of the situation to move two points ahead after being forced into a draw on home ground. It would appear that the team have a rather curious problem of performing in front of their own fans, with only four points gained so far from a possible twelve.

Arsenal and Tottenham moves up to the fourth and fifth place respectively as they each secured a victory. With a stunning 4-1 win over Manchester City and seeing an end to Harry Kane’s goal drought, Tottenham may look forward to challenge the current league leaders.

Nonetheless, their North London rivals which boasts of a much more impressive Alexis Sanchez hat-trick might prove to be a threat; though Arsenal still needs to plug up that rather leaky defence. 8 could be Alexis’s lucky number now, what with him being the 8th South American player to score a hat-trick in the Premier league and securing a spot as the 8th Premier League top scorer with 3 goals alongside Anthony Martial and Andre Ayew.

The Bad: Under the Table

Aston Villa drops into the relegation zone as Stoke City won their match Bournemouth on home ground last Saturday. The Villans would have been at a better place if they could at least secure a draw against Liverpool which would have allowed them to be only one point behind Stoke.

There were no change of luck for the other two teams (Newcastle and Sunderland) in the relegation zone, even with Newcastle managing a 2-2 draw against Chelsea somehow.

The Ugly: A Struggling Chelsea

Currently 15th in the premier league with 7 games gone, former champion Chelsea appears to be struggling. They had trouble playing against Newcastle, a team not leaving the relegation zone anytime soon. Chelsea’s rather poor performance since the start of the season was no less astonishing than Manchester City’s two successive defeats after five straight wins, but with Diego Costa’s 3-match ban verdict it could be here to stay.

Manager Jose Mourinho warns Chelsea players that none of them are “untouchable”; only consistent good performance would earn them such a status. However, he lauded Costa’s performance in the win over Arsenal, when the Brazil-born Spain striker was a nuisance and retrospectively banned for grappling with Laurent Koscielny.

Chelsea’s core players have so far struggled to hit the heights of last term and former Arsenal and Barcelona midfielder Fabregas says more is required – and not just when Mourinho demands it, as the manager did at half-time of Saturday’s abject draw at Newcastle.

Tottenham 4 : 1 Manchester City

Kevin de Bruyne angled in an effort to put leaders City in front before Eric Dier equalized with a 25-yard shot slightly before half-time.

Toby Alderweireld then moved Spurs up front with a brilliant header from an Erik Lamela free-kick.

After that, Kane side-footed in when team-mate Christian Eriksen’s free-kick came back off the woodwork before Lamela slid home as the visitors chased the game.

City had won five league games in succession before losing to Juventus in their opening Champions League match of the season 11 days ago.

Defeat by the Italian champions appears to have knocked them out of their stride, and Manuel Pellegrini’s side have now lost three of their past four matches.

Injuries to key players have not helped, with goalkeeper Joe Hart on the bench at Spurs because of a back injury which meant he only trained for one day before the game.

Caballero, his deputy, was caught out when he came for Lamela’s free-kick and allowed Alderweireld to put the hosts 2-1 up.

Like Hart, City skipper Vincent Kompany was also missing, while midfielder Toure injured a hamstring to add to Pellegrini’s problems.
