Man United and Crystal Palace set up meet in FA Cup final

Manchester United and Crystal Palace will meet each other in the FA Cup finals as both teams won 2-1 against their respective opponents.

Anthony Martial scored a late winner to help United to their first realistic chance for silverware since Sir Alex Ferguson retirement and to allay fears for yet another premature managerial departure since then.

Louis van Gaal had been surrounded by constant speculation on his future in Old Trafford, but in the very least, he could now hope to maintain his record of winning a trophy at every club he managed.

The Red Devils pulled ahead initially at 34th minutes after play as Marouane Fellaini made a close-range finish – but the team needed David de Gea to prevent an equalizer from a Romelu Lukaku penalty.

The Old Trafford faithful would have pulled even further ahead early in the second half when Rashford and Martial combined neatly to leave Jesse Lingard a shooting chance from the edge of the area, but a well-worked opportunity was let down by the accuracy of the shot.

Under jeers, a lackluster Everton rallied after half-time and made it 1-1 as Chris Smalling deflected Gerard Deulofeu’s cross into his own net.

The game looked destined for extra time, but when Phil Jagielka could not quite cut out Ander Herrera’s pass to Martial in stoppage time the United forward was on to it in a flash and the finish was emphatic.

Meanwhile, Connor Wickham stars for Crystal Palace as he scored his team’s winner against Watford to advance his team into their first FA cup final in 26 years.

Yannick Bolasie brought Palace ahead early at Wembley with a header, but Watford levelled in the second half when Troy Deeney nodded home Jose Manuel Jurado’s corner.

But Crystal Palace maintained their best performance in what was a bizarre season, securing their winner through Connor Wickham’s header.

The final will be held on 21 May, an exact same situation where Palace and United fired to a 3-3 draw before the Red Devils made 1-0 winners in the replay. Then, it saved Alex Ferguson’s very career before it proceeded to become the trophy laden legend it is now.

Wayne Rooney set to make comeback against West Ham

Wayne Rooney set to make comeback against West Ham

England and Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney could make his comeback against West Ham United after months of being sidelined with injury.

Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal had said that Rooney, 30, could play in the FA Cup fixture against the Hammers should he proves his fitness.

Making an appearance in a U-21 game recently, Rooney had a quiet match since missing 12 games due to a knee injury in a Premier League defeat against Sunderland on Feburary.

Manchester United is now fifth in the Premier League, and will travel to Upton Park for a quarter-final replay which has been described by Rooney’s fellow palyer Michael Carrick as “make or break.”

It was, indeed, Manchester United’s last opportunity for silverware this season.

Meanwhile, West Ham boss Slaven Billic who declared that Rooney was “the best England player of his era,” hopes that the Scouse does not make his comeback during the match.

“I would rather him not play, put it that way. 100 percent, 70 percent fit, I would rather him watch the game.”

“Now because they lost 3-0 (to Tottenham last weekend) we really don’t know who’s going to play, is it going to be Rooney from the start, is it going to be (Marouane) Fellaini, is it going to be (Ander) Herrera? Is he going to change a lot or stick to the team?”

“We don’t know. So it makes it harder for us. But we aren’t going to change the team because of them”

West Ham sit just a point and a place behind United in the Premier League table, and still have to face Van Gaal’s side in what is scheduled to be the last-ever competitive fixture at Upton Park when they meet in the league next month.
