Series ties at 3-3.

Klay Thompson leads the Golden State Warriors in a fourth-quarter charge to stave off elimination at the hands of Oklahoma City Thunders and force game seven at the Western Conference.

In the latest visit to OKC, the Warriors were lagging by nine points at the end of Q3, and reigning MVP Stephen Curry hardly looked inspiring despite a decent bagging of points. So his sidekick stepped up, and for the first time this season, Klay Thompson outshines his team’s unquestioned ace.

Stubbornly refusing to let his team’s season end prematurely, Thompson shot relentlessly until things finally looked hopeful for the Warriors. His fighting spirit seemingly roused Curry’s own, turning him Curry once more. The ace hits two smooth, confident 3 pointers in the final five minutes, the kind he used to make before the Thunder began knocking him around the court.

“Nobody wanted to [go home],” Thompson said after the game, his performance having silenced a roaring crowd in Oklahoma City’s Chesapeake Arena.

As game six wraps up, OKC will be vary as they pack their bags to visit the Oracle arena in their final bout with the Warriors, where the hosts will be heavily favoured to earn their second consecutive finals appearance.

Cavaliers take the series 4-2.

On the other end, the Cleveland Cavaliers cuts the Toronto Raptors’ magical season short and win the Eastern Conference series by 4-2, earning their second consecutive appearance in the NBA finals.

LeBron James was unstoppable against NBA’s perpetual underdog team – a team that had just earned their best season in franchise history. It was not as much as a demolition as game five (116-78), but a stroll nonetheless.

James shrugged off persistent boos from rowdy Canadian fans to lead the Cavaliers scorers with 33 points, including going 3-6 from three-point range and shooting 59.1% from the field.

It will be his sixth straight NBA finals, and it does not appear that LeBron will be running out of gas soon. On the other hand, despite how things are for them right now, the Raptors’ could at least shed off their underdog label.

The Golden State Warriors staves off their seemingly impending elimination from the NBA playoffs by beating Oklahoma City Thunder to make it 3-2 in the best-of-seven series.

The Thunders did no wrong, however. Their dynamic duo, Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook were able to net 40 and 31 points respectively, adding eight assists and seven rebounds for the team.

But a defiant Stephen Curry rallied his team in their attempt to become just the 10th team to rally from a 3-1 playoff deficit. He raised his arms in the early moments to awaken Golden State’s raucous crowd and bagged 31 points, keeping safe the defending champions who broke records by 73-9 in the regular season.

As the game approached the end, Curry yelled defiantly, “We’re not going home! We’re not going home!”

Klay Thompson added 27 for the Warriors, and they will meet Thunder for Game 6 on Saturday night.

Back on home turf, the Cleveland Cavaliers blitzed straight past the Toronto Raptors from the start to pull ahead to 3-2 as the playoff score levelled after their last game.

Lebron James scored 23 points while Kevin Love scored 25, and the Cavaliers unleashed tenacious defense on Toronto to regain control of the Eastern Conference finals with a rout of the Raptors in Game 5 on Wednesday night.

The four-time MVP also added eight assists and six rebounds in 31 minutes before checking out late in the third quarter with the Cavs up 37. He spent the fourth quarter resting on the bench, watching keenly as Cleveland’s reserves completed the demolishing.

They came into the game following two straight losses across the border, opening with a 34-point lead in the first half and never slowed down since.

Lebron and his team could clinch a second consecutive conference title with a win in Game 6 away at Canada once more.

Curry named NBA MVP for two years running

To nobody’s surprise, Golden State Warriors ace Steph Curry is named NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP) for the second year running, the 11th player to win back-to-back MVP awards.

Curry had returned from a sprained knee injury on Monday, scoring an NBA record of 17 points in overtime against the Portland Trail Blazers. He finished the game with 40 points as the Warriors rallied to a 3-1 lead in the Western Conference semi-finals with a 132-125 victory.

As he hit a 3-point shot with 1:51 remaining in overtime Monday night, he emphatically said what fans in the Moda Center in Portland, Oregon, already knew.

“I’m back!”

This was for the first time since he was injured in Game 4 of the first-round series against the Houston Rockets, and Curry was quite rusty for three quarters but a sensation down the stretch after the Warriors trailed by as much as 16 points.

He was originally expected to play about 25 minutes off the bench, but picked up a heavier workload in the second half after Shaun Livingston, who had been starting in his absence, got ejected in the second quarter after arguing a call and picking up two technical fouls.

The win also means that the Warriors can progressed through the series should they win in Game 5 on Wednesday night at home.

But his contribution in the game does not take the shine out of his MVP award the next day.

The point guard has also become the first ever player to become an unanimous MVP winner as he made a clean sweep of all 131 first-place votes, including 130 from a panel of sportswriters and broadcasters and one from the fan vote.

There are more than a few reasons for this. He made 402 3-pointers, shattering his single-season NBA record of 286, which he set last season. He also led his team to a record-setting 24-0 start, the best start yet by a margin of nine wins.

His team had also finished 73-9, the winningest record in NBA history, exceeding the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls’s 72-10 record which many thought impossible to get one over.

Meanwhile, San Antonio Spurs forward Kawhi Leonard finished second in the voting with 634 points, while Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James was third with 631 points.
