Paris St-Germain regained the Ligue 1 title in style after an emphatic 7-1 victory over defending champions Monaco at the Parc des Princes.
The leaders gathered an unassailable 17-point lead over second-placed Monaco to reclaim the French top flight title with 5 games left.
Dani Alves crossed for Giovani Lo Celso in the 14th minute and he tapped home to begin the rout. Edinson Cavani then added a second with a powerful header from Julian Draxler’s cross before Angel Di Maria scored the pick of the goals; with Danijel Subasic advancing from his line, the Argentine winger calmly lobbed the ball over the Monaco goalkeeper.
Lo Celso then nodded in Javier Pastore’s cross to give PSG a 4-0 lead after 27 minutes but Rony Lopes reduced the deficit when he finished at the back post.
Di Maria then steered the ball home after smart play by Pastore and Monaco’s misery was complete when Radamel Falcao put through his own net from a corner before Draxler added a seventh on the counter attack.
PSG has already beaten Monaco 3-0 in the Coupe de France final at the end of last month and this performance was even more emphatic.
Former Barca player Neymar did not appear to be in attendance at the Parc des Princes, but told Brazilian media earlier on Sunday that he is “recovering well” from his foot injury and “feels no pain.”
“I am stepping little by little,” he said. “I cannot walk freely without the shoe, but I am in treatment, I am working out at the gym too.”
