Jose Mourinho: David de Gea ‘100%’ staying at Manchester United

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has insisted that David de Gea will stay with the Red Devils despite heavy links of a move to Real Madrid.

The manager was speaking in California’s Palo Alto before Sunday’s friendly tour meeting with Los Blancos in San Jose, which Manchester United later won on penalties.

After the match United would move onto Washington DC for their final match — against FC Barcelona — on Wednesday before flying back to Manchester.

Mourinho also indicated that United had allowed de Gea, who has two years left on his terms, the freedom of choosing whether to move to Real himself.

“I can guarantee that he’s not going this season, that I can, and my feeling is it will be very difficult for him to go. Because he’s a very honest boy, very straight,” Mourinho said.

“He was contacted for a long time (by Real), the club was close, then we open because I always have this feeling of when a player has a desire to go I don’t like to stop players to go because in the end you don’t get what you expect from them if they want to move and they don’t.”

De Gea had nearly joined the Champions League winners two years ago before the transfer collapse on the final day of the 2015 summer window, and while United are bracing themselves for a further bid Mourinho’s statement could be seen as a message for Real.

“I don’t think the feeling from him [towards Real] is very good,” the Portuguese coach added. “I see him very happy and focused and working better than ever so for me 100% he stays with us.”

Chelsea signs Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata

Chelsea have announced the signing of Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid on a five-year contract with a fee in the region of £58m.

The Spanish international forward is the Premier League champions’ third major signing of the summer, after Antonio Rudiger from Roma and Tiemoue Bakayoko from Monaco, as well as Willy Caballero on a free from Manchester City.

“I am so happy to be here. It’s an incredible emotion to be part of this big club,” he said after signing his new contract with Chelsea. “I am looking to work hard, score as many goals as I can and to win as many trophies as possible.”

The player will link up with the rest of the Chelsea squad on their pre-season tour of Asia.

Morata, 24, scored 20 goals last season after rejoining Real from Italian champions Juventus. His tally helped Los Blancos win La Liga and the Champions League, although the majority of his appearances were as a substitute.

His 27% conversion rate was also the highest of any striker to score 10 or more goals in La Liga in 2016-17 — with his 15 goals from 55 shots winning 13 points for Real Madrid in La Liga last season. Only Cristiano Ronaldo won more for the team with 15.

Aside from his ability to convert up front, Morata is also expected to be direct replacement for his compatriot and international teammate, Diego Costa in the London club.

Costa himself had revealed last month that Chelsea manager Antonio Conte told him that he no longer has a future at the club. However, it remains that Costa could return to his former club at Atletico Madrid, who is determined to re-sign him despite being placed under a transfer ban.

PSG confident of luring Neymar despite Barca urging Brazilian to stay

Paris Saint-Germain are growing confident of potential success in signing Neymar from FC Barcelona despite the club’s efforts to urge him to stay.

The Ligue 1 club have reportedly triggered the forward’s 222m euro release clause, although Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu telling numerous parties that the Brazilian international is not for sale.

However, should PSG comply financial fair play rules completely in their efforts to trigger Neymar’s release clause, Barca would have no way to block their purchase. Additionally, French newspaper Le Parisien also reported on Friday that he had told some of his Barça team-mates that he was joining his friends Thiago Silva, Dani Alves, Marquinhos and Lucas at the Parc des Princes.

Neymar himself did not speak to to reporters after a 2-1 friendly win over Juventus in New Jersey, but Barca coach Ernesto Valverde addressed the speculation by his desire to keep Neymar at Barcelona after the Brazilian scored a brace in the pre-season win.

“We want Neymar with us,” he said. “We know his value on the pitch and what he brings to the locker room.”

Aside from Valverde, outspoken Barca defender Gerard Pique tweeted a picture of him and Neymar suggesting that his teammate has decided to stay at Camp Nou, along with the simple message “Se queda”, which translates as “He stays”.
