Real Sociedad was thwarted in their attempts to climb the ranks of La Liga as a late equalizer saw them submit to a 2-2 draw against Eibar.
La Real looked set to collect the full three league points twice in the match, and Eibar fought back twice to ensure that their host did not. The dropped points also meant that Real Sociedad could not take full advantage of Atletico Madrid’s recent defeat to FC Barcelona to leapfrog the Madrid team for a Champions League spot.
Juanmi played both hero and devil as he gave the hosts the lead before getting sent off for a second bookable offence at 1-1, after Gonzalo Escalante had equalised for Eibar.
But soon after, Eibar was also reduced to 10 men prior to half-time when Florian Lejeune received a second yellow card.
A penalty was then converted by Carlos Vela penalty to restore the lead for the hosts, but Leon had the final say as Eibar equalised in the third minute of stoppage time.
Meanwhile, Valencia CF has pulled themselves further away from the La Liga drop zone with victory over Leganes.
Eliaqium Mangala struck from close range after his initial header had been blocked to score the only goal in the match and send Valencia 12th, a point and a place above Las Palmas.
Leganes then finished the game with 10 men at Estadio de Mestalla as Alberto was sent off.
