Messi wants Real Madrid to win nothing

Five-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi has expressed his hopes for Real Madrid to not win any trophy this season.

The Argentinian has stirred the rivalry between his boyhood club Barcelona and Real that the entire Nou Camp team wants Zinedine Zidane’s men to finish the 2015-16 campaign without a single tournament victory.

He revealed that Barca’s players are rooting for Atletico Madrid – the very team eliminated Barca themselves from the Champions League – to win the Champions League by beating Real in the final.

“It would hugely please Barcelona if Atletico beat them in the Champions League final,” he said.

“What Atletico Madrid have done is great, it is not easy to beat them. They are a very tough opponent and (Diego) Simeone deserves credit for their performances.”

Barcelona had been hoping to recapture their treble success last season, but was unable to do so this season after their Champions League exit. However, Messi is confident that his side will be celebrating on Saturday night as they play the final La Liga game this season which could potentially decide the La Liga trophy winner.

“We spilled a lot of points in La Liga, but recovered just in time. We still have everything in our own hands,” Messi said. “We have two finals now, one in the league and one in the cup.”

“A league title is very difficult to win, so you have to win it and then reflect on the achievement and savour it.” He added. “It would be great to end the year with two titles.”

Tom Brady’s $200 89-recipe cookbook sold out

Tom Brady's $200 89-recipe cookbook sold out

It is most remarkable that price tag of $200 is unable to deter Tom Brady fans even the slightest as they all mobbed bookstores to get they hands on the NFL Star’s new cookbook.

The 89-recipe tome, snappily titled the TB12 Nutrition Manual was described on the New England Patriots quarterback’s official website as being printed on 100-pound text paper with covers made from natural wood that include laser etching.

It describes its culinary offering as a “limited-edition ‘living document’ containing information about our core TB12 nutritional philosophies and featuring a library of 89 seasonally-inspired recipes that you can use to support your TB12-aligned nutrition plan.”

Much in the spirit of commercialism too, the description on the site also added, “Please note also that as we periodically update this manual with new or modified recipes, we will send additional pages to all purchasers of the manual.”

Essentially, anyone who buys it will receive additional pages with new or modified recipes until Brady runs out of culinary ideas.

Brady himself also posted a picture from the book on his Facebook page, calling it “another step toward achieving your peak performance.” But all copies are final sale. “Please note that due to its unique content and binding, all sales of the TB12 Nutrition Manual are final sale – the manual cannot be returned or exchanged.”

The book proved to be a big hit as it already ran out of stock, and further copies will only be made available after another month or so. But it wasn’t even the most expensive book written by a member of his family. His wife Gisele Bundchen had written a $700 coffee-table book last November, which sold out too.

Either way, Brady would have plenty of time to perfect his skills and maybe come up with a second cookbook, as he is set to miss the first four games of the next NFL season after his Deflategate ban was upheld last month.

Curry named NBA MVP for two years running

Curry named NBA MVP for two years running

To nobody’s surprise, Golden State Warriors ace Steph Curry is named NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP) for the second year running, the 11th player to win back-to-back MVP awards.

Curry had returned from a sprained knee injury on Monday, scoring an NBA record of 17 points in overtime against the Portland Trail Blazers. He finished the game with 40 points as the Warriors rallied to a 3-1 lead in the Western Conference semi-finals with a 132-125 victory.

As he hit a 3-point shot with 1:51 remaining in overtime Monday night, he emphatically said what fans in the Moda Center in Portland, Oregon, already knew.

“I’m back!”

This was for the first time since he was injured in Game 4 of the first-round series against the Houston Rockets, and Curry was quite rusty for three quarters but a sensation down the stretch after the Warriors trailed by as much as 16 points.

He was originally expected to play about 25 minutes off the bench, but picked up a heavier workload in the second half after Shaun Livingston, who had been starting in his absence, got ejected in the second quarter after arguing a call and picking up two technical fouls.

The win also means that the Warriors can progressed through the series should they win in Game 5 on Wednesday night at home.

Curry claims his MVP award a day after the Warriors’s victory against the Blazers.

Curry claims his MVP award a day after the Warriors’s victory against the Blazers.

But his contribution in the game does not take the shine out of his MVP award the next day.

The point guard has also become the first ever player to become an unanimous MVP winner as he made a clean sweep of all 131 first-place votes, including 130 from a panel of sportswriters and broadcasters and one from the fan vote.

There are more than a few reasons for this. He made 402 3-pointers, shattering his single-season NBA record of 286, which he set last season. He also led his team to a record-setting 24-0 start, the best start yet by a margin of nine wins.

His team had also finished 73-9, the winningest record in NBA history, exceeding the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls’s 72-10 record which many thought impossible to get one over.

Meanwhile, San Antonio Spurs forward Kawhi Leonard finished second in the voting with 634 points, while Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James was third with 631 points.
