Newcastle United took a point on home ground by holding Manchester United to a 3-3 see-saw draw.
United manager Van Gaal admitted himself that he has been “very bored” at times watching his side following a galore of criticism of Manchester United’s attacking prowess.
He can have no such complaints after this hugely entertaining goal fest which produced some of their best attacking play of the season.
The away team led twice, first by Wayne Rooney’s penalty and Jesse Lingard’s finish that made it 2-0 before Georginio Wijnaldum and Aleksandar Mitrovic’s penalty levelled the scores.
Rooney then scored a second that looks like the winning goal of the match.
But as Paul Dummett struck Newcastle’s third in the last minute, Manchester United to miss their chance to go level on points with fourth-placed Tottenham.
While the point was not enough to clear Newcastle from the relegation zone, it represents a noteworthy improvement after three consecutive 1-0 defeats.
