Liverpool is at an advantage as they defeated Stoke City on a visit by 1-0 in the Capital One Cup semi-finals.

The club had lost key midfielders such as Philippe Coutinho and Dejan Lovren to hamstring injuries early on in the game.

Jordan Ibe, who came as a substitute for Coutinho, was assisted by clever build-up work from Adam Lallana and Joe Allen, and struck the far post after 37 minutes of play.

Stoke City had failed to relive the form in which they beat Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United in earlier matches; meanwhile, Simon Mignolet saved any openings the team managed to get.

Liverpool would go into the second leg with a one away goal lead, as they prepare to meet Stoke again on home ground.

They are now the favourites to meet either Everton or Manchester City in the League Cup final at Wembley.
