Leicester City defeated Everton 3-2 at Goodison Park on Saturday and will spend their Christmas on top of the Premier League table.
Penalties from Riyad Mahrez and a goal from Shinji Okazaki supplied the win despite the valiant efforts made by Everton to fight back.
At 38 points, the miraculous team would stay as leaders of the league regardless of the match result between Arsenal and Manchester city, who are at second and third place respectively.
They are now the only team in Premier League history to spend Christmas at bottom of the table one season and on top of it in the next.
Despite this, Leicester manager Claudio Ranieri insists that the team objective is still to get 40 points first, but acknowledges that being league leaders is a “dream” for their fans.
‘If we stay there at the end of April, I will think about the title. Now I just enjoy it,’ said the Italian.
‘That is football. Football is crazy. If it is crazy in this way, I am very happy.’
When asked how he would enjoy his Christmas, Ranieri said: ‘With the turkey, very good. No lasagna, (it’s) too heavy. But no clean sheet (means) no pizza.
