Manchester United were eliminated from the Champions League in dramatic fashion at Wolfsburg.
Anthony Martial put United ahead in the 10th minute, but Naldo volleyed in the equalizer in the 14th.
Vieirinha then regained the lead for Wolfsburg in the 29th, before an own goal by Joshua Guilavogui in the 82nd tied the score.
But two minutes later Naldo scored his second with a header to seal Wolfsburg’s victory.
The loss, coupled with PSV Eindhoven’s 2-1 home victory over CSKA Moscow, dropped United to third place in Group B.
United’s late misery was a stark contrast to Manchester City, who saw fortune swing back in their favour.
Five goals were netted inside six minutes across the two games, with City coming back to defeat Borussia Monchengladbach by 4-2 and lift Juventus up in Group D.
That means the Citizens will avoid the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid in the last 16, as their Manchester rivals face the prospect of Europa League football in the New Year.
