Champions League Group B: CSKA Moscow vs Manchester United

Man Utd forward and captain Wayne Rooney is raring to go against CSKA.

Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney will focus on Champions League fixture as derby against City and his 30th birthday approaches.

Wayne Rooney scored his first Premier League away goal in 11 months at Everton.

The forward netted a hat-trick in the 4-0 win over Club Brugge in the Champions League qualifying play-off tie in August, but is still waiting for his first group-stage goal.

Rooney was on the losing side against Russia in Moscow in 2007 with England, but a year later won the Champions League in the city when United beat Chelsea on penalties.

“I’ve had mixed emotions in Moscow. I lost here with England and had possibly the greatest moment in my club career,” he said.

“That was a special night for Manchester United, a night which myself and the fans will never forget.

“Having had a taste of winning this trophy, it gives you desire and a determination to try and do it again.”

Michael Carrick is the only other remaining United player who featured in the 2008 final.

Rooney added: “It’s a different group of players, so hopefully myself and Michael Carrick can help, especially the younger players, and give them the experience we gained.”

“CSKA is a big game for us because it’s a tight group, we are all on three points and we want three points and it’s a game we have to win.

We have prepared well with a good win at Everton [on Saturday] and training has gone well over the last couple of days.

We will look forward to the game on Sunday. I am sure it will be a good game to watch, and I hope we can get the three points.”

While United head to Russia, City are preparing to play Sevilla at the Etihad Stadium, and Louis van Gaal believes this gives Manuel Pellegrini’s side an advantage for the derby.

“Manchester City has a benefit because they are playing at home and that is a difference,” he said.

“You have the benefit of the recuperation. So they have more rest. There is nothing you can do. We do a lot of things to try and help.

We have cold baths, we have warm baths, less training sessions and practice so the freshness is good enough to beat City. But first we have to beat Moscow.”

NBA GM’s: Wiggins will be Breakout Player this Season

NBA GM’s believe that Timberwolves’s Andrew Wiggins have what it takes to make the season his.

NBA general managers believe Canada’s Andrew Wiggins is due for a breakout season.

The Timberwolves shooting guard in his second season with the Minnesota Timberwolves, received 17.2 per cent of the votes in the NBA.com GM survey, to top the category: Which player is most likely to have a breakout season?

This is the 13th year of the survey, which asks general managers 49 different questions about the best teams, players, coaches, offseason moves and more in the NBA.

GMs were not allowed to vote for their own team or personnel; the percentages were based on the pool of respondents to a particular question, rather than all 30 decision-makers.

Meanwhile, the survey also revealed that the rest of the NBA don’t think too highly of the Toronto Raptors off-season or their chances this season.

Decision-makers around the league voted the Raptors as the sixth best team in the East, according to the poll released by NBA.com on Tuesday.

Only 2.4% of GMs said the Raptors would finish as a top-four team in their conference, and the team did not receive any top-four votes in a major category.

Sam Ward also found the net but two goals from Matias Paredes and Gonzalo Peillat’s penalty corner sealed victory for the visitors.

“We fell right into their trap as we were sloppy at times in possession which allowed them to counter-attack,” said GB head coach Bobby Crutchley.

“That’s what they’re looking for and that’s why it’s frustrating.”

Britain is now in the midst of preparations for the World League Final 27 November in India. The test match will assess both their mettle and poise.

The second Test against Argentina will be held on Wednesday at the same venue.
